It is only the faults described that prevents a slightly higher grading overall.Despite that, it really is still an exemplary example for its cleanliness, brightness and lack of other major detracting faults associated in a book of a similar age.      'BEACHCOMBER' [pseud. J.B. Morton] has long been regarded as one of the greatest English comic writers, to be ranked alongside Lear,Carroll and P.G. Wodehouse. And yet, becaused his work appeared originally in newspaper form,it has not always been easily available to his many admirers.                           This book is the largest collection of Beachcomber's work ever made in one volume. It conatins all his best-known characters - Mr Justice Cocklecarrot and the Red Bearded Dwarfs,Dr Strabismus (Whom God Preserve) of Utrecht,Mrs McGurgle of Marine House, Captain Foulenough,Charlei Suet and of course the Filthistan Trio - as well as others who are perhaps not so familiar, such as 'Thunderbolt' Footle, and Mr Oswald Thake and his valet Saunders. Also included are some of his finest parodies,of,among others, those of A.A. Milne and John Buchan.                                             Back in 1974,Morton celebrated his 50th year as 'Beachcomber' - a unique journalistic achievement. Richard Ingrams,Editor of Private Eye and a lifelong admirer of Beachcomber's writings, has assembled this hilarious new collection to celebrate the event, and has also contributed a biographical introduction.        Please contact seller, for correct shipping/P+p quotes - particularly ALL overseas customers - BEFORE ordering through the order page!                                              N.B.
